After studying education at Macalester College and a Masters of Education (International Education Policy) at Harvard University, Izumi worked in education development in Cameroon, China, Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam. During her education development work in South East Asia, working closely with ethnic minority communities, she co-created and implemented several literacy programs to ensure equity and access to education for those in need.

She coordinated the Leadership: Personal Development Program and also directed the Professional Learning Program for Faculty.
Currently she is a high school vice principal at the United World College South East Asia (UWCSEA) working with an excellent team to develop a personal, social and emotional program for the high school.
This online course provides an insight to some of the work she has developed for her community. Her ambitious new path is now focused on sharing what she has developed and to create supportive communities for those seeking to practice living courageously together.
She currently lives in Singapore with her husband and two children.
"Even in challenging moments, we can choose to live courageously. To show up for what we find important, to choose to let ourselves really be seen, and to choose to connect with others. I choose to live courageously, because at least for me, I can share a path that is kinder, more compassionate, and more in tune with how I choose to express myself."
